Summer in Los Angeles feels endless in the best way. Warm nights, packed patios, outdoor movies, concerts in the park, food festivals, and events happening almost every weekend across the city. When I’m out showing homes around LA during the summer, clients always ask what locals actually do once the weather heats up.

Cinespia Cemetery Screenings
Cinespia at Hollywood Forever Cemetery is one of the most classic summer experiences in Los Angeles. Thousands of people show up with picnic blankets, folding chairs, snacks, wine, and full dinner spreads to watch cult favorite movies projected outdoors right inside the cemetery grounds. It sounds strange the first time you hear about it, but locals absolutely love it.
The movie lineup for 2026 already includes favorites like E.T., The Matrix, Mulholland Drive, and Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Most people arrive early because half the fun is hanging out before the movie starts with DJs, photo booths, and people-watching.
Friday Night Wine Tastings
When: May 29-September 11, 2026
The Friday Night Wine Tastings at Barnsdall Park have quietly become one of the best summer date-night events in Los Angeles. The setup is simple but hard to beat. You’ve got boutique wines, food trucks, sunset views over the city, and live DJ sets all happening on the lawn near Hollyhock House.
Most locals bring a blanket and stay for a few hours once the sun starts going down. The 21-and-over setup keeps the vibe relaxed, and the city views alone make it worth the trip up Olive Hill.
LA Wine Fest
When: June 13-14, 2026
LA Wine Fest is one of the bigger outdoor tasting events in Southern California every summer. For 2026, the festival moves to the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, which gives the whole event more open space and a less crowded feel compared to smaller venues.
The wine tastings are obviously the main attraction, but there’s also craft beer, cider, kombucha, food trucks, live music, and shopping from local small businesses. Most locals treat it like an easy weekend afternoon with friends rather than a formal wine event. The outdoor setup and mountain views help it feel more relaxed than some of the larger food and drink festivals around Los Angeles.
Pasadena Chalk Festival
When: September 26-27, 2026
The Pasadena Chalk Festival is one of those events where people usually stay much longer than they planned. Hundreds of artists spend the weekend creating giant chalk murals across the pavement, and the variety is honestly impressive once you start walking through the festival.
You’ll see everything from movie scenes and portraits to abstract artwork and huge colorful recreations of famous paintings. Families usually spend hours walking around while kids bounce between activities and food stands.
Orange County Fair
When: July 17-August 16, 2026
The Orange County Fair is still one of the biggest summer traditions anywhere near Los Angeles. It has all the classic fair staples people expect including carnival rides, live concerts, fried food, games, exhibits, and giant crowds moving through the fairgrounds from morning until late at night.
Most locals already know to arrive early or plan around traffic because weekends get packed fast. The concerts and food vendors are usually the biggest draw, but a lot of people also come back every year for the nostalgia of it all. Families, groups of friends, and longtime locals all end up there at some point during the summer.
LA Lotus Festival
When: July 11-12, 2026
The LA Lotus Festival at Echo Park Lake brings together culture, food, music, performances, and one of the prettiest summer settings anywhere in Los Angeles. The blooming lotus flowers around the lake give the whole festival a calmer atmosphere compared to some of the city’s louder summer events.
The cultural performances, food vendors, dragon boat activities, and artisan marketplace are usually where most people spend their time. A lot of locals also stop by for the wellness workshops and lake activities throughout the weekend.
